NSO officials completed the Labour Force Survey (LFS) Design Training

In January 2024, with the support of the EU-funded ILO’s "SDG-aligned budgeting to transform employment in Mongolia" project, the NSO updated the current Labour Force Survey (LFS) questionnaire in line with the 20th ICLS (statistics on work relationships) and 21st ICLS standards (statistics on the informal economy).

Two officials from the National Statistical Office (NSO) successfully completed the Labour Force Survey (LFS) design online training organized by the International Training Centre (ITC) of the ILO. This online training, held from May 20 to June 28 2024, aimed to enhance the participants' knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to design, implement, and process LFS data effectively.

The training focused on aligning the survey design with the latest international statistical standards and best practices. By participating in this training, the statisticians improved their ability to apply the newly adopted LFS questionnaire, ensuring more accurate and reliable labour force data collection and analysis. The participants gained a deeper understanding of the conceptual and operational definitions relevant to LFS design, focusing on key terminologies and frameworks. The statisticians are now better equipped to adapt and test the LFS questionnaire in the national context, including translation and testing options. The training covered a range of issues relevant to understanding and assessing data quality across the life cycle of a labour force survey.

The completion of this training marks a significant step towards strengthening the capacity of the NSO to conduct comprehensive and effective labour force surveys, contributing to better-informed policymaking and labour market analysis in Mongolia.
