National adaptation of the ILO code of practice on occupational safety and health in forestry (2024) for strengthening OSH in the Indonesian forestry sector
In the past five months, ILO Indonesia and Timor Leste Country Office have facilitated the adaptation of this Code of Practice (COP) at the request of the Association of Indonesian Forest Concessionaires (APHI), Kahutindo (union), and labour inspectors (Ministry of Manpower). The adaptation primarily involved modifying certain terms to better fit the Indonesian context. This process now accomplished.
The revised Code of Practice on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) in Forestry Work was adopted by the Meeting of Experts in May 2024 and launched on 25 March 2025. The revised code reflects changes in the sector and the roles of competent authorities, employers, contractors, workers, and their organizations.
The code is structured into two parts: general provisions related to forestry, general duties, rights, and responsibilities of sectoral actors, and technical guidelines for safety and health at the forestry worksite.
The adaptation in Bahasa Indonesia was facilitated by ILO Indonesia and Timor Leste Country Office, resulting in a comprehensive and forward-looking document promoting a preventative culture of safety and health in forestry. And it is officially launched on Monday, 28 April 2025, at Hotel Santika in Slipi, Central Jakarta, coinciding with the commemoration of SafeDay 2025.
