Launch of “Diagnostic study on labour migration data collection mechanisms in Egypt” by CAPMAS, in partnership with ILO, under the EU-funded THAMM Programme - -28 August 2023

ILO, in the framework of the THAMM Programme, has supported the development by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) of a pioneering diagnostic on labour migration data collection mechanisms in Egypt. This study and its main findings were presented to the national partners on 28 August 2023 in Cairo together with key recommendations and steps forward. The launch event was also an opportunity to present the first Arabic translation of the 20th International Conference of Labour Statisticians (ICLS) guidelines (2018) concerning the statistics of international labour migration, which comes as a significant achievement under the THAMM programme. This accomplishment is expected to benefit Arabic-speaking countries by aiding them in the development of their national statistical system and by strengthening the collection of comparable statistics on international labour migration. Their adoption and implementation will support the improvement and standardization of data collection practices on labour migration in Arab-speaking countries.
