ILO promotes HIV/AIDS awareness in Jordan’s hotel sector
A two-day ILO training workshop helps build the capacity of employers and workers in Jordan’s hotel sector to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS in the workplace.

In collaboration with the Jordanian government and the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions (GFJTU), the ILO will train employers and workers in Jordan’s hotel sector on methods to raise awareness on HIV/AIDS in the workplace. Training workshops will take place in both the Dead Sea and Aqaba with the aim to increase participants’ knowledge of Jordan’s national policy on HIV/AIDS and World of Work, as well as provide employers and the workers with tools to implement educational programmes on HIV/AIDS in the workplace. The workshops also aim to sensitize hotel sector participants to the rights of people who live and work with HIV/AIDS.
The workshops are intended to build on Jordan’s position as the first Arab country to adopt a national policy targeting HIV/AIDS in the workplace. The ILO adopted an International Labour Standard on HIV/AIDS in 2010 in the form of the HIV and AIDS Recommendation, 2010 (No. 200). Recommendation No. 200 constitutes the first international human rights instrument to focus specifically on the issue of HIV/AIDS in the world of work.
