ILO-Japan Project and A Single Drop for Safe Water ink partnership

The ILO-Japan Water and Sanitation Project and A Single Drop for Safe Water have partners to construct a water system in Lanao del Sur and to increase employment opportunities within the community. Using local-resource based approaches, the project will optimize use of local resources.

By employing community contracting, people in the community are engaged in constructing the water system thereby increasing employment opportunities in the community, ownership and sustainability of the project. It also contributes in mitigating the impact of COVID19 during these challenging times.

ILO's implementing partner, A Single Drop for Safe Water will engage the community-based organization Katutungan Irrigators Association (KIA) to construct the water system that will cover around 2,000 households in six barangays in Wao, Lanao del Sur. Aside from the technical aspects of the construction, KIA is also trained on how to implement the minimum wage, social protection, occupational safety and health (OSH) and others ensuring decent work in the project.

The project in funded by the Government of Japan to provide jobs and to promote peace through improved water supply and sanitation services in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
