ILO - IHD's Multi-Stakeholder Consultation on Policy Options for Domestic Work in the context of India’s Care Economy

This consultation on trends of the care economy and policy implications for domestic workers is meant for disseminating the findings of the Survey on Employers of Domestic Workers in India conducted by IHD in collaboration with ILO in two metropolitan cities (Delhi & Bangalore) which register significant number of domestic workers. The study reinforces the need to recognize the domestic work as a legitimate labour market activity, and regulate different aspects such as recruitment, contracts, identity/security checks, workers basic rights, and so on. The consultation is planned to understand both supply and demand side of the domestic work which is expected to provide insights into the effective care policies. Multi-Stakeholders are invited to discuss effective care policies to be placed in the back drop of the social and economic composition of this workforce and backgrounds of the employers employing these workers. This exercise is expected to ensure the clear cut guidance on each stakeholder’s role in ensuring decent work for domestic workers in this fast growing sector.
