ILO- Feminist Economics Saturday Discussion Group (FESDIG) Guest Lecture: “Inclusive Cities and the Urban Working Poor: Informality, Gender and Empowerment”

The International Labour Organization (ILO), New Delhi in association with the Feminist Economics Saturday Discussion Group (FESDIG) is organizing a Guest Lecture on January 25th 2016 to be delivered by Professor Martha Chen, co-founder and International Coordinator of Women in Informal Employment: Globalizing and Organizing (WIEGO, a global research-policy action network) as well as Lecturer in Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School and Affiliated Professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, USA. The event will be held at Juniper Hall, Habitat World at the India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi on January 25th from 3 to 6 pm. The guest lecture titled “Inclusive Cities and the Urban Working Poor: Informality, Gender and Empowerment” is being organized with the objective of deepening the understanding of the linkages between informal employment, gender inequality and urban development and of efforts to empower women informal workers in cities around the developing world. Introductory remarks will be delivered by Professor Bina Agarwal, founder of FESDIG as well as a Professor of Development Economics and Environment at the University of Manchester and Ms Renana Jhabvala, Chair of the WIEGO Board and National Coordinator of the Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA).
