Representatives of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Development Coordination Office (UNDCO) in Latin America and the Caribbean will participate in a two-day meeting in Lima in order to strengthen cooperation and collaboration around issues related to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The draft agenda for the meeting includes:
International Labour Standards, Social Dialogue and Tripartism
Employment and Sustainable Enterprises
Social Protection
Skills and Vocational Training for Achieving SDGs
Data, Information and Knowledge Systems for Achieving SDGs
Opportunities for inter-agency collaboration in the framework of UN reform to advance the 2030 Agenda
The ILO is the only tripartite UN agency. Created in 1919, the ILO brings together governments, employers and workers of 187 member States, to set labour standards, develop policies and devise programmes promoting decent work for all women and men.
The UNDCO manages and supports the new UN Resident Coordinator system that aims to bring together the different UN agencies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of operational activities at the country level.
The meeting will be opened in the Peruvian capital by Giovanie Biha, Deputy Director of UNDCO, and by Moussa Oumarou, Deputy Director General of Field Operations and Partnerships of the ILO.
The delegations of the two organizations, including UN Resident Coordinators, ILO Directors and specialists based in countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, will be headed by the UNDCO Regional Director, Christian Salazar, and the Regional Director a.i. of the ILO, Juan Hunt.
