ILO and Ministry of Labour train high-level Lebanese officials on child labour monitoring and referral system
Training sessions geared at government officials and non-governmental practitioners in the Mount Lebanon areas of Kahale and Ouzai, to instruct on how to establish and operate a local child labour monitoring and referral system.

The ILO Regional Office for Arab States and the Ministry of Labour in collaboration with the BEYOND Association will conduct a 3-day training session for high-level Lebanese officials and for practitioners in the Mount Lebanon areas of Kahale and Ouzai, to instruct on how to establish and operate a local child labour monitoring and referral system.
The ILO initiative falls within its activities under the project titled “Tackling child labour among Syrian refugees and their host communities in Jordan and Lebanon,” funded by the Denmark-managed Regional Development and Protection Programme (RDPP.)
The training workshop aims to equip the trainees to establish a local committee to oversee efforts to combat child labour in the area. Mount Lebanon has two shelters for working street children, located in Ouzai and Kahale.

The training will conclude with members of the local CLMS committee establishing its by-laws and operational regulations. Trainees will include representatives from the following institutions:

- What is the ILO Child Labour Monitoring and Referral System (CLMS) and how does it operate
- What is child labour and what are the most prevalent forms in Lebanon generally, and in Mount Lebanon specifically
- What are the roles and responsibilities of officials and practitioners implementing the CLMS
- How can children of the Ouzai and Kahale centres benefit from the local CLMS Committee and system
The training will conclude with members of the local CLMS committee establishing its by-laws and operational regulations. Trainees will include representatives from the following institutions:
- Municipalities of Ghobairy and Kahale
- Directorates of Education in Ghobairy and Kahale
- Directorates of Internal Security Forces in Ghobairy and Kahale
- Directorates of General Security Forces in Ghobairy and Kahale
- Social Development Centres in Ghobairy and Ouzai
- Social workers and labour inspectors from the Ministry of Labour
- Ministry of Justice
- Home of Hope Shelter in Kahale
- Beyond Shelter in Ouzai
