ILO and Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung to release study on the situation of unions and workers in Lebanon

The study places Lebanon’s workers’ movements in their current and historical contexts, provides a baseline for workers’ organization membership and calls for the establishment of a new trade union paradigm.

The ILO and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Foundation will release a seminal study on the history and present characteristics of the trade union movement in Lebanon. The study entitled “Characteristics and Structure of the Union Movement in Lebanon,” compiles primary and secondary evidence in order to provide a retrospective of the labour movement in Lebanon as well as a profile of labourers and trade union membership in the country. Specifically, the study covers:
  • The characteristics of the Lebanese workforce;
  • the structure of trade union movements;
  • presents the results of a field survey gauging the opinion of wage-earners; and
  • provides recommendations as pillars for future trade union development road map.
The release of the study will be released at a conference in Beirut, Lebanon.
