ILO and The All India Organisation of Employers' Consultative Workshop on 'Engaging Contract Workers – Model Practices and Voluntary Code'

A state level consultative workshop with employers from automobile sector was organized by ILO’s Way out of Informality project in collaboration with All India Organization of Employers (AIOE-EFSI).

The ILO “Way out of Informality” – a sub-regional project is working with the automobile sector in Pune to promote formalization of enterprises and lowering of the decent work deficit for workers. The project is supporting a number of local interventions. Through the process of implementing this work, the need for a voluntary code for enterprises on engagement of contract workers has been taken up as a possible area of focus. As the use of contract workers in the automobile industry continues to grow so does the need to limit possible exploitation. An initiative such as a voluntary code of practice would be in line with the proposed actions outlined in Recommendation 204 on the transition from informal to formal economy adopted by the International Labour Conference in June, 2015.
