Green Jobs Workshop

The Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs in association with the ILO’s Regional Office for Asia Pacific in Bangkok and the ILO Jakarta Office will organize a workshop on green jobs in Jakarta to highlight the importance of green jobs and their strategic priority within the context of Indonesia’s mid-term development plan.

Green jobs help reduce the environmental impact of enterprises and economic sectors, ultimately to levels that are sustainable, including jobs that help to protect ecosystems and biodiversity; reduce energy, materials, and water consumption; de-carbonize the economy; and minimize or altogether avoid generation of all forms of waste and pollution.

The event was a follow up to a first initiative held in October 2009 in response to a request of the Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs. An international conference on green jobs is being planned for later this year. The ILO is currently mainstreaming green jobs in all its activities, in addition to developing specific green jobs programmes and projects for Indonesia.

The event brings together government representatives including from the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), the Environment Ministry, the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration as well as employers’ and workers’ representatives and donor agencies.
