The First Steering Committee Meeting of UN Joint Programme on Extending Social Protection to Herders with Enhanced Shock Responsiveness

The Government of Mongolia, represented by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection and the United Nations in Mongolia are jointly implementing a programme to extend social protection to herders with enhanced shock responsiveness, funded by the UN Joint SDG Fund for a period of two years, from February 2020 to January 2022.

The first Steering Committee Meeting of UN Joint Programme was held on 28 May 2020. The meeting was co-chaired by Mr Tapan Mishra, UN Resident Coordinator in Mongolia and Mr Unurbayar Gombosuren, State Secretary, MLSP.



"We have to make sure that this comprehensive programme is implemented successfully to make impacts. I hope before next winter we will have some good results already”, said Mr Tapan Mishra, UN Resident Coordinator.


“This programme will make a real contribution to improve livelihoods of herders, their understanding of social insurance system, and make them more prepared for shocks including natural disasters”, said Mr Unurbayar Gombosuren, State Secretary, MLSP.

The Steering Committee comprises of four participating UN Agencies (PUNOs), namely, UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), International Labour Organization (ILO), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) under the leadership of UN Resident Coordinator in Mongolia, Ministry of Labour and Social Protection (MLSP), Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry (MFALI), National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mongolian Employers’ Federation (MONEF), Confederation of Mongolian Trade Unions (CMTU) and Zavkhan Government Office.
