EPIC First Meeting of Key Stakeholders in Berlin

A strategic multi-stakeholder partnership, called the Equal Pay International Coalition (EPIC), is being established to assist UN Member States in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals, in particular Goal 8, target 8.5 which calls for full and productive employment and decent work for all women and men, including for young people and persons with disabilities, and equal pay for work of equal value by 2030, as well as Goal 5, aimed at achieving gender equality and empowerment for all women and girls. Equal pay for work of equal value is central to the achievement of gender equality and empowering women and is key to inclusive growth and poverty reduction.

Prior to the launch of EPIC in New York during the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly in September 2017, it is proposed that Key Stakeholders come together to help shape EPIC’s vision and modalities for achieving its objectives.

Objective of the event

• To build consensus on EPIC’s draft vision, operational guidelines and resource mobilization strategy;
• To increase ownership, support, awareness and greater engagement of governments and other key partners, for EPIC’s strategic vision and key operational modalities.
