Enhancing Skills of Government Officials in Handling Training Activities
The training session for officials of the Department of Labor and Employment will help build the capacity and enhance their skills in facilitating and handling training activities in relation to international labour standards, freedom of association and right to collective bargaining.
As part of the activities under the project on “Promoting the effective recognition and implementation of the fundamental rights of Freedom of Association and Collective Bargaining in the Philippines”, the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) conducted a “Training of Trainers (ToT) on International Labour Standards, Freedom of Association and Right to Collective Bargaining” in 2013.
The primary objective of the training was to inculcate common understanding and interpretation of international labour standards,freedom of association and right to collective bargaining, concerted actions and other trade union activities among the DOLE implementers.
It also sought to inform and update the participants on international instruments including the ILO's Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Organise Convention, 1948 (No. 87), the Right to Organise and Collective Bargaining Convention, 1949 (No. 98) and on the current domestic, global and international trends and initiatives on the protection and promotion of workers’ rights. A total of 16 DOLE officials completed the training course.
As a follow-up activity to the training, the ILO and DOLE will conduct the training, which seek to enhance the skills of the DOLE officials in conducting training sessions, including designing courses and managing training. The activity will also include a component on presentation and communication skills enhancement.
