Egypt Entrepreneurship Summit 2016: Entrepreneurship and the Future of Egypt

• Egypt is the most populous country in the Middle East, and third most populous in Africa?
• Egypt has one of the youngest populations in the world, with 4% of young people entering the labour market every year?

The Egyptian business ecosystem for small and medium enterprise is booming. Yet Egyptian businesses, and especially small and young businesses are facing vast challenges and obstructions. Low productivity, weak international competitiveness, meager technological capacity and low export rates comprise of a structural economic deficit. Small and micro business struggle to grow to a medium size, leading to a ‘missing middle’ of there being many local small and large international businesses, yet few local medium sized businesses. Lacking awareness and knowledge, lack of foreign exposure, missing or mismatched financial support, risk aversion, and a vastly confusing bureaucratic jungle, are amongst the main reasons small businesses fail to grow or collapse.

The Entrepreneurship Summit is part of a larger initiative to boost Egyptian small business initiatives. It will focus on how organizations are being forced to re-think the employment relationship as a key factor in organizational emergence and development. This is a premier networking event for young scholars and educators to interact. The result will be enrichment second to none. Leading scholars, educators, policy makers, business professionals, doctoral students, and others will participate in this event.
