Consultation and validation workshop on states of skills in Nepal assessment and priorities: Towards improved skills and lifelong learning
The workshop aims to seek inputs from key stakeholders and agree on major challenges facing Technical and Vocational Education and Training sector in Nepal, key areas for potential ILO technical assistance in addressing the challenges, and the Theory of Change.
Background
ILO constituents face complex skills development challenges, and often ask pressing technical questions for the design and implementation of skills and lifelong learning policies and systems. In response, the ILO Office brings its technical expertise and its organizational capacity to answer these questions and contribute to policies and systems more relevant to the fast changing labour markets. The ILO technical assistance is delivered through Development Cooperation projects, which can be driven by funding opportunities rather than the country’s needs. This challenge motivates the development of a coherent country vision to articulate the country’s challenges and the condition for achieving sustainable results, around which all the ILO skills interventions at country level can be structured towards the changes to be achieved in the long-run.In response to challenges faced by ILO constituents in skill development, ILO has conducted country level assessments of the state of skills for Nepal, analysing the country's socio-economic context, development and employment policies, skills development policies and system, key challenges and the way forward. The findings are presented as a country profile that serves the basis for development of coherent country visions. The country vision once validated by the constituents will be further used as an input document to formulate country specific ILO technical assistance.
