Conclave on Promotion of Sustainable Enterprises for Local Development

Small enterprise development is at the heart of the ILO Decent Work Agenda, which hinges on job creation, rights at work, social protection and social dialogue. It links with the Sustainable Development Goals, which put decent jobs at the centre of economic policy-making and development.

This Conclave is organised by the ILO in partnership with the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India, under the “Promoting Sustainable Enterprises in India (PSEI)” initiative funded by Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

The conclave intends to provide a platform for technical discussion and knowledge building on global best practises on policies and programmes on MSME development and their integration into value chains. It will have policy makers from Bangladesh, Indonesia, Vietnam, Korea, Japan, South Africa, and OECD as speakers in the technical sessions 1 to 3. The Conclave will also have a dedicated session on textiles and apparel sector, jointly organized with Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) to provide opportunities to MSMEs to learn about sourcing practises of large enterprises and supplier development initiatives in other countries. Besides the technical discussions, the one-day conclave aims to provide a platform to policymakers, industry associations, and MSMEs for networking and cross-country peer learning.

The Conclave will delve into unique challenges faced by MSMEs in their pursuit to survive in the market, compete and grow and the key policy enablers necessary to make them future ready. It will also facilitate peer learning on innovative approaches pertaining to the formalization of enterprises, entrepreneurship, as well as the investment-led development of value chains and clusters within specific sectors.
