Formalization of the Informal Economy Project
Communication campaigns at the markets
ILO- Formalization of the Informal Economy Project in Mongolia organized a communication campaign in collaboration with the Confederation of Mongolian Trade Union and Ulaanbaatar City Trade Union to raise awareness and disseminate information among the self-employed workers who are working at the busiest market, Bumbugur, Kharkhorin, and Dunjingarav. These markets attract most traders and located in the central, western and eastern parts of the city.
The campaign was organized on 8, 15, and 23 October 2024. Through the campaign, CMTU staff advised on the importance of getting involved in the Trade Union, and distributed promotional materials and posters about freedom of association, collective agreements, benefits of social insurance and simplified tax regimes to those workers working at the markets. Besides distributing brochures, contractual lawyers provided legal advice to them and they asked various questions relating employment relations, social insurance, and lease agreement they faced while running their businesses.
The campaign also aimed to increase the membership of the Trade Unions.
CMTU developed and printed out 2000 posters, 100 people received legal advice and reached out to 3000 people in total.
These three markets have businesses of more than 7900 self-employed workers.
