Coaching Session for Government Officials on International Labour Standards, Freedom of Association and Collective Bargaining
The coaching session for officials of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will review concepts and learnings on international labour standards, freedom of association and right to collective bargaining. It will also provide an opportunity for dialogue and consultation with an ILO specialist on international labour standards.
As part of the activities under the project on “Promoting the effective recognition and implementation of the fundamental rights of Freedom of Association and Collective Bargaining in the Philippines”, the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) conducted a “Training of Trainers (ToT) on International Labour Standards, Freedom of Association and Right to Collective Bargaining” in 2013.
The primary objective of the training was to inculcate common understanding and interpretation of international labour standards, freedom of association and right to collective bargaining, concerted actions and other trade union activities among the DOLE implementers.
It also sought to inform and update the participants on international instruments including the ILO's Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Organise Convention, 1948 (No. 87), the Right to Organise and Collective Bargaining Convention, 1949 (No. 98) and on the current domestic, global and international trends and initiatives on the protection and promotion of workers’ rights. A total of 16 DOLE officials completed the training course.
As a follow-up activity to the training, the ILO and DOLE will conduct the coaching session for DOLE trainers on international labour standards, freedom of association and right to collective bargaining. The session will serve as a venue to review concepts and learning from the training of trainers.
