Celebrating 50 Years of ILO in the Pacific

Since 1975, the ILO Office for Pacific Island Countries has worked in close partnership with governments, workers’ and employers’ organizations in the Pacific region to promote social justice and advance decent work.

The one-day conference “Celebrating 50 Years of ILO in the Pacific”, jointly organized by the Government of Fiji and the ILO, will provide a Pacific-wide tripartite platform for dialogue, reflection and forward-looking commitments.

Objectives:

• Explore how regional cooperation can be further strengthened to advance decent work, social justice and sustainable development in the Pacific in line with the Blue Pacific 2050 Strategy.
• Celebrate the ILO’s historic partnership with Pacific Island Countries and its impact since 1975, showcasing stories of transformation achieved through ILO technical assistance and support.
• Reaffirm commitment to the ILO Decent Work Agenda and regional collaboration.

• Regionalism in a changing multilateral environment.
• Labour administration, tripartism and social dialogue.

Expected Outcomes

• Improved insight into the opportunities and challenges that will define the world of work in the Pacific and raised awareness of the need to strengthen institutional roles, relationships and capacities.
• Strengthened regional and sectoral partnerships.

• Government representatives from labour, commerce, education, climate, health, security, and immigration sectors of the Republic of Fiji.
• Government representatives from labour/employment ministries from ILO Member States.
• Employers’ and Business Membership Organizations from ILO Member States.
• Workers organization from ILO Member States.
