BRAC – under the ISEC project - has a target to get 2500 households of Cox’s Bazar to get out of ultra-poverty by engaging them in combinations of 15 different farms (including rearing bull, heifer, goat, sheep, and birds; vermicompost, and agriculture) and non-farm enterprise options. Till the 1st quarter of 2024, all these 2500 ultra-poor HHs (200 HHs having persons with disabilities) received productive assets for enterprise development. All of the recipients of productive assets also received training on income-generating activities and inputs appropriate for the chosen combination of enterprise options.
BRAC’s ultra-poverty graduation approach is a comprehensive, time-bound, integrated, and sequenced set of interventions that aim to enable households living in ultra-poverty to achieve key milestones towards sustainable livelihoods and socioeconomic resilience, to progress along a pathway out of extreme poverty. This graduation intervention addresses poverty multi-dimensionally, mitigating context-specific and people-specific challenges. The 24-month programming is grounded on the principles of the four pillars of the poverty graduation approach - livelihoods promotion, financial inclusion, social protection, and social empowerment.
