Advocacy workshop to reduce risk of child labour in Lebanon’s agriculture sector
A joint event by the ILO and UNICEF under the patronage of Lebanon’s Minister of Labour will shed light on the prevalence of child labour in agriculture in the northern Lebanese Akkar region, its dangers and ways to combat it.
Under the patronage of Lebanon’s Minister of Labour Sejaan Azzi, the ILO and UNICEF, in coordination with the Governor of Akkar Emad Labaki, will hold an advocacy workshop targeting local policy-makers to address ways to reduce the risks of child labour and the worst forms of child labour in the Akkar region, in particular in the agriculture sector.
The workshop is held in collaboration with the Akkar Network for Development (AND), World Vision (WV), and BEYOND, as social partners active in the field of child labour and protection of youth. It will also involve other relevant key organizations such as FAO, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Social Affairs, and other key stakeholders.
It aims to shed light on the prevalence of child labour and damage caused by child labour, be it physical, economic, social or psychological. The workshop serves to expand the network of cooperation and to identify potential interventions in this region that suit and that are in line with national strategies and programmes adopted by the Ministry of Labour.
This workshop complements current activities in this regard within the framework of joint efforts between the Ministry of Labour and the ILO Regional Office for Arab States on strengthening national strategies and programmes to combat child labour.
