22nd Regular Meeting of the Inter-Agency Committee on Radiation Safety (IACRS)

The Inter-Agency Committee on Radiation Safety (IACRS) provides a forum for the Committee members and observer organizations to timely exchange information on their respective activities with a view to promoting consistency of policies and co-ordination of activities with respect to areas of common interest in radiation protection and safety at the international level.

Topical issues that were on the agenda of the 22nd IACRS meeting included: Approach to follow in implementing the new Occupational Intakes of Radionuclides dose coefficients for occupational radiation protection and potential implications for all stakeholders, UNSCEAR evaluation on epidemiological studies of radiation and cancer (CanEpi), ICRU Report 95 on new Operational Quantities for External Radiation and their impact on radiation protection and the measurement of worker doses, and the future of radiological protection- revision of ICRP 103.

The IACRS consists today of representatives of eight intergovernmental member organizations (the European Commission (EC), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), International Labour Office (ILO), Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development/ Nuclear Energy Agency (OECD/NEA), Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR), the World Health Organization (WHO)) and five observer non-governmental organizations (International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP), International Commission on Radiation Units & Measurements (ICRU), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), International Radiation Protection Association (IRPA) and International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Representatives of the Inter-Agency Committee on Radiological and Nuclear Emergencies (IACRNE) and workers and employers organizations designated by the ILO Governing Body were also invited to the meeting.
