International Women's Day 2024

Webinar: Gender Equality for Decent and Fair Work in Rural Areas

Welcoming #IWD2024, Katadata and Magdalene with the ILO through Improving Workers' Rights in Rural Sectors of Indo-Pacific with a Focus on Women held a Webinar.

The agriculture, forestry and fisheries sectors play a vital role in the Indonesian economy, providing jobs for almost one-third of the workforce. However, around 39.45 million workers, mainly in rural areas and mostly women, face challenges such as limited access to occupational health and safety protection, productive resources, and empowerment of female workers.

Welcoming #IWD2024, Katadata and Magdalene with the International Labor Organization (ILO) through Improving Workers' Rights in Rural Sectors of Indo-Pacific with a Focus on Women held a Webinar dialogue discussing challenges, efforts and opportunities to promote gender equality as the key to sustainable development in rural areas.

What has been and can be done by the Government, employers and trade unions to protect female workers in the agricultural sector, especially in the palm oil and fisheries processing industries? Watch the complete discussion in the ILO-Katadata webinar with the theme "Gender Equality for Decent and Fair Work in Rural Areas" on ILO TV.
