10:15 - Panel discussion on Decent Jobs for Youth

The plenary sitting opened by the President of the Conference, followed by introductory remarks from the ILO Director-General and a video message from the United Nations’ Secretary General Mr Ban Ki-moon.


Panel moderated by Ms Nozipho Mbanjwa from CNBC Africa and is composed of 3 young persons and 3 constituents:
  • José António Vieira da Silva, Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security from Portugal
  • Linda Kromjong, Secretary-General of the International Organization of Employers (IOE)
  • Sharan Burrow, General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC)
  • Ms Rita Kimani, Young entrepreneur from Kenya
  • Ms Nice Coronacion, Young trade union activist from the Philippines
  • Mr Max Trejo, from the Organización Interamericana de Juventud
First part of the exchange based firstly on four series of questions from Conference delegates focusing on four angles: the youth employment challenge, Solutions, Partnerships, the 2030 Agenda and the Global Initiative.

Panel discussion complemented by live interviews with a young refugee, Ms Fartun Abass Osman (Somalia) as well as a young person who has experienced internal displacement, Ms Saila Zailuaga (Colombia).
