ILO participates in successful jobs fair in Fiji’s western division

Nadi, Fiji (ILO News) - The ILO Office for Pacific Island Countries marked its presence at the 2024 Western Division Mini Job Fair, a two-day event held on July 4th and 5th at Koroivolu Park in Nadi. The job fair, an initiative of the National Employment Centre (NEC) under Fiji’s Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations, served as a vital platform connecting job seekers with potential employers, thereby emphasizing the significance of employment opportunities in the region.

The Honorable Agni Deo Singh, Minister for Employment, Productivity, and Industrial Relations, highlighted the event’s crucial role in curbing unemployment and fostering economic growth in the Western Division. The ILO commended the Fiji Government and the NEC for their unwavering commitment to enhancing the job market and bolstering the workforce.

The job fair saw participation from over 20 employers, presenting a multitude of job opportunities. This platform enabled job seekers to interact directly with companies, partake in on-site interviews, and explore a variety of career avenues. The ILO’s participation in the event reaffirmed its dedication to promoting decent work and sustainable livelihoods, not just in Fiji, but across the Pacific.

The ILO booth provided a glimpse into its ongoing initiatives and offered resources aimed at improving job seekers’ employability. The organization also conducted several workshops centered around skill development, labour rights, and career planning.

As the ILO continues in its mission to promote social justice and decent work, it anticipates further collaborations with local partners and governments to generate more opportunities for job seekers in Fiji and beyond.
