Slovakia ratifies the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006, as amended (MLC, 2006)

Slovakia is the 87th Member State of the ILO that ratifies this convention.

News | 28 May 2018
On 17 May 2018, the Government of Slovakia deposited with the International Labour Office the instrument of ratification of the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006, as amended (MLC, 2006). Slovakia is the 87th ILO member State to ratify the Convention, a comprehensive and innovative global standard for decent working and living conditions for seafarers and fair competition for shipowners. While Slovakia is a landlocked country, it is a labour-supplying State for the maritime industry and its ratification contributes to getting even closer to the achievement of a collective ratification of the Convention by all European Union member States.

The Convention will enter into force for Slovakia on 17 May 2019, that is, one year after its ratification. To date, the States that have ratified the MLC, 2006 represent approximately 91 per cent of the world gross tonnage of shipping.
