On 3 April 2019, the United Republic of Tanzania marked the ILO’s centenary with the ratification of the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006, as amended (MLC, 2006). This ratification represents another important step towards reaching the objective of 100 ratifications during the centenary. The instrument of ratification had originally been deposited with the International Labour Office on 11 October 2017.

The ratification of the MLC, 2006 by the United Republic of Tanzania provides a significant boost to the momentum that has been generated to bring all maritime players on board in promoting and realizing decent work at sea for all seafarers and a level playing field for shipowners.

The MLC, 2006 will enter into force for the United Republic of Tanzania on 3 April 2020, one year after its ratification. For further information, please visit the MLC, 2006 webpage.
