The ILO at Expo 2020

Expo 2020 represents a great opportunity for the United Nations and the ILO to engage millions of people and share some of the powerful and inspirational stories happening on the ground.

The ILO, under the United Nations dedicated Pavilion, will take part in Expo 2020 Dubai from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to promote a human-centred future of work.

Under the theme ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’, the World Expo will host some 200 participating countries, the United Nations agencies.

Pre-expo events

In the lead up to Expo 2020, a series of Pre-Expo virtual events will be held from October 2020 to March 2021 to highlight some of the most pressing challenges of our time.

  1. How cooperatives are transforming lives and livelihoods

    During the Pre-Expo Urban and Rural Development Week, Simel Esim, ILO expert on Cooperatives and the Social and Solidarity Economy, explained how cooperatives have transformed livelihoods and also emboldened the voice of rural women.

  2. A post-COVID-19 recovery must be a green recovery

    During the Climate Change and Biodiversity Week, Moustapha Kamal Gueye, Coordinator of the ILO Green Jobs Program joined the global platform with a presentation on "A just transition to a low-carbon economy".
