Overall objective

More people are assisted through effective and efficient unemployment protection mechanisms including unemployment insurance through effective tripartite social dialogue

Specific objectives

  • A new social insurance-based unemployment insurance suitable for Sri Lanka is designed by using the existing ETF platform
  • Tripartite social dialogue, through the NLAC, is strengthened to facilitate a policy dialogue on introducing new unemployment insurance scheme
  • Capacity and knowledge bases of government agencies and social partners on social insurance and unemployment insurance are built.

Strategies

The project will contribute to initiate tripartite discussions on developing social insurance-based unemployment insurance in Sri Lanka

Expected results

  • Outcome 1: Workers’ income protection is strengthened by developing new social insurance-based unemployment scheme in Sri Lanka
  • Outcome 2: Knowledge and capacities of tripartite constituents on social insurance-based unemployment insurance are improved in Sri Lanka
