With only 18.6% of unemployed workers globally having effective coverage in case of unemployment , it remains the least developed branch of social protection. Supporting Sri Lanka’s journey towards establishing a national unemployment insurance scheme, ILO facilitated a workshop for government stakeholders, as well as employer and workers representatives towards continuing tripartite engagement on unemployment insurance.
Objectives of the workshop:
Presentation of the results of the actuarial analysis on the proposed Unemployment Insurance Scheme for feedback and observation, and validation of the report
Presentation of the policies briefs concerning maternity benefit and the social security reform
Fostering a collaborative and inclusive decision-making process
Continuation of the tripartite social dialogue
Unemployment insurance schemes are a vital part of any comprehensive social protection system. The validation workshop is part of a series of interventions supported by the ILO under its ‘Development of unemployment insurance scheme in Sri Lanka’ project, towards shaping a more resilient and equitable labour market for the working people of Sri Lanka.
