China Chapter of the Global Business and Disability Network launched a new service to match employers and jobseekers with disabilities

Press release | Beijing, China | 03 December 2018
Beijing(ILO News) -- As organizations around the world commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3, the ILO’s Global Business and Disability Network – China Chapter (GBDN-China) launched a wechat account to increase the success rate of disability hiring. The account functions as a one-stop-service point for both hiring employers and job seeking persons with disabilities and organizations working with them. The jobseekers can subscribe to the app for free, and get direct information about job vacancies and market-demanded skills, apply to opened positions and leave their CVs for future ones. Only the business members of the GBDN China can post vacancies.

“A successful hiring means getting persons with the right skills for the job and adjusting workplace practices and culture to the person. This app is to help the members of GBDN-China to do just that,” stated Grace Xiang of the Accor Group China and Chair of the GBDN-China.

The app can be a great service to organizations working with persons with disabilities. “It has the potential to make skill training, technical education and, job coaching more responsive to market demands. Investments to improve the employability of persons with disabilities have not always benefited from employers’ inputs,” said Stefan Tromel, Coordinator of the ILO Global Business and Disability Network.

Talking from the 2018 International Day of Persons with Disabilities: China Disability Policy Dialogue Conference in Beijing, Ms Lv Fei, Director of the Able Development Institute, congratulated the GBDN China. “We need a lot of first steps to see the real impact of leaving-no-one-behind efforts. Job is central to everyone’s life and even more so to that of persons with disabilities. The app can eventually become a bridge for persons with disabilities to walk from the sheltered to the open job market.”

The ILO and the UN PRPD Project provide technical assistance to the GBDN China, a national-level, company-driven network that supports businesses to succeed in and benefit from disability inclusion through collaboration, which was launched in July 2018. The current members of GBDN China are: China.org.cn, Chongqing Farsight Printing, Hunan Anbang Pharmaceutical, Shandong USTZE, UCOMMUNE, Accor Hotels, Airbus, Carrefour, Flex, IBM, JP Morgan, L’Oreal, Sodexo, Standard Chartered GBS China, Inclusion Factory, and Volkswagen Automatic Transmission (Tianjin).
