International Conference to Commemorate International Migrants Day

The International Conference to Commemorate International Migrants Day will be held on 17-18 December 2019 at the Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand.

This event is the second episode and continuation of the commemoration of the International Migrants’ Day in 2018. Following last year’s theme, it is titled ‘Migration and SDGs: ASEAN and Beyond: A Pathway to 2030 Agenda: Episode II’.

The conference is hosted by the Asian Research Center for Migration (ARCM) at the Institute of Asian Studies, Chula Global Network (CGN), Chulalongkorn University, in collaboration with the Representative of Thailand to ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children, the International Labour Organization (ILO) through the TRIANGLE in ASEAN and Safe and Fair programmes, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), International Organization for Migration (IOM), UN Women, the Thai Union Group (TUF), and Julie’s Manufacturing Sdn. Bhd..

During the two days, invited practitioners and experts from the region will present, discuss, and share knowledge and perspectives related to a range of migration-related topics including climate change, displaced persons, labour migration, fishing, and youth.

On day two of the conference, ILO’s TRIANGLE in ASEAN and Safe & Fair programmes will officially launch and present the key findings of its joint report Public attitudes towards migrant workers in Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand (2019).

The conference is organized to encourage collaboration between institutions and stakeholders that are working on migration issues and to highlight that migration is a crucial ASEAN and global issue that cannot be ignored.
