“100 Years, 100 Lives” in Africa

The International Labour Organization (ILO) celebrates its Centenary throughout 2019 as well as 60 Years of operations in Africa. This is an opportunity to raise awareness on the work done by the ILO across the continent to promote decent work and fight against poverty.

The ILO has been providing support - directly or indirectly - to millions of people over the last 100 years globally and over the last 60 years in Africa in areas as different as entrepreneurship, youth and women employment, occupational safety and health, social protection, fundamental rights at work or effective governance of labour migration, to name only a few.

Through this “100 years, 100 lives” initiative, we would like you to meet 100 of those people, both old and young, women and men, 100 lives who have been positively impacted by the ILO with the support of governments, employers’ and workers’ organizations but also partnering with other UN agencies, NGOs and donors.

As the ILO also celebrates 60 years of operations in Africa, we are bringing you the first 60 stories starting from 7 June. Then, more stories will become progressively available to reach 100 before the end of the Centenary celebrations in Africa, on the occasion of the 14th ILO African regional meeting to be held from December 3-6 in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.
