Supporting Tourism in Myanmar through Business Management Training

The project will create in-country capacity for the roll-out of entrepreneurship and business skills training and provision of related support services for entrepreneurs in the tourism sector who in turn are expected to contribute to job creation and the improvement of working conditions among SME workers.

To ensure that benefits from tourism also flow to local communities, and in particular, disadvantaged sections among them, the project will gather intelligence on specific skills-related constraints affecting entrepreneurs in the Myanmar tourism sector.

Objectives

  1. Skills gaps and opportunities in SME management in tourism identified and integrated into policies
  2. Delivery structure able to provide SME management training and related support services to entrepreneurs in the tourism sector
  3. SMEs in the tourism sector have ability to improve their management practices, productivity and working conditions for the benefit of workers in the sector

Outputs

  1. Cutting edge knowledge on skills gaps and development opportunities in SME management in tourism is generated
  2. Awareness on issues affecting entrepreneurship in tourism increased among potential support institutions
  3. Evidence-based support provided to the creation of an enabling policy environment for SME development in tourism
  4. Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB) national implementation system for tourism is in place
  5. Enterprise management and working conditions related training materials (at trainer level) adapted to the Myanmar tourism context and available for use
  6. Cadre of Trainers and Master Trainers able to provide training tailored to the tourism sector
  7. Partner organizations supported to provide appropriate complementary non-training assistance to beneficiaries of SME management training
  8. Improve Your Business (IYB) training materials (at entrepreneur level) adapted to the Myanmar tourism context and available for use
  9. The business management and working conditions related skills of tourism entrepreneurs are enhanced
  10. IYB-tourism trainees receive complementary financial and non-financial business support

Expected outcome

The project aims to contribute to the creation of decent work opportunities through sustainable SMEs in the tourism sector.
