2020 Myanmar Stakeholder Forum on Decent Work and Labour Law Reform
The Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population with support from the ILO is hosting the fourth National Stakeholder Forum on Labour Law Reform and Decent Work. The event is also supported by the Initiative to Promote Fundamental Labour Rights and Practices.
The 2020 Forum is organized with funding support from the European Union and in partnership with Labour Rights Initiative Partners, including the European Union, Japan, United States and Denmark.
Priority 1: Employment and decent work and sustainable entrepreneurship opportunities are available and accessible to all, including for vulnerable populations affected by conflict and disaster.
Priority 2: Application of Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work is strengthened through improved labour market governance.
Priority 3: Social Protection for all is progressively extended, especially for workers and populations The Forum will be an opportunity to discuss developments relating to the law reform agenda. This includes developments in Occupational Safety and Health including the Occupational Safety and Health Law that was passed by Parliament in 2019. There will be an opportunity to discuss minimum wage setting mechanisms and dispute resolution processes as part of sessions. The Government will present on the overall progress with the labour law reform agenda.
Sessions in the forum also include:
• A wider discussion about the relationship between decent work, Foreign Direct Investment a productivity and their mutually supporting relationship.
• Presentations on experience from Denmark relating to the use of bipartite social dialogue in occupational safety and health.
• Presentations on how cooperation between workers and employers based on the experience in the garment sector can improve workplace governance and productivity.

What will be discussed?
The forum focuses on labour law reform as part of the wider decent work agenda. Myanmar signed its very first Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP) in 2018. It is an important document which guides initiatives in Myanmar promoting decent work. The Myanmar DWCP has three priorities:Priority 1: Employment and decent work and sustainable entrepreneurship opportunities are available and accessible to all, including for vulnerable populations affected by conflict and disaster.

Who will be attending?
The Forum will bring together participants from the Government of Myanmar, Parliamentarians, members of conciliation and arbitration bodies, foreign Governments, the private sector (including representatives of UMFCCI), labour organizations (including representatives of CTUM, AFFM-IUF and MICS), civil society, international investors and buyers, research institutions and international organizations.*****
