    The purpose of this conference is to identify the industrial relations mechanisms/systems and outcomes that contribute to equality at work (in areas such as wages, working time, level and quality of employment) and also to upward cross-border convergence in Europe that is defined as converging trends on a number of economic (such as GDP per capita, employment rate, etc.) and social indicators (such as reduction of poverty, social protection, etc.).


  1. ILO / ITC course on "Negotiation skills for the world of work" (20-24 March 2017)

    This course aims to develop participants' knowledge and understanding of consensus-building approaches to conflict management and dispute resolution. Emphasis is placed on how to move from a traditional style of adversarial negotiation to a negotiation style that allows mutual gains and strengthened relationships among parties and therefore also contributes to better compliance with standards at enterprise or sectoral level.

  2. ILO/EC - Inequalities and the world of work: what role for industrial relations and social dialogue?

    The purpose of this conference will be to investigate the possible role of social dialogue and social partners and more generally industrial relations to reduce inequalities in the world of work. A particular attention will be paid to the contribution of social partners and social dialogue to reach a better balance between flexibility and security for both the employers and the workers.

    This meeting will bring together experts from around the world to gain a better understanding of the incidence and trends of non-standard forms of employment across different countries of the world, the reasons for its use, its effects on the labour market, firms and workers, including workers’ ability to realize their fundamental rights. The meeting will also discuss national regulations with respect to non-standard forms of employment and different regulatory responses.

    The 2013 RDW Conference will centre on the role of labour market regulation when job creation is the paramount objective.   1. Conference "Adjustments in the public sector: scope, effects and policy Issues"

    As a response to the crisis, most European governments put in place policies aimed at reducing their budgetary deficit, thereby carrying out a number of public sector reforms. The conference "Adjustments in the public sector: scope, effects and policy Issues", organized by the ILO in cooperation with the European Commission, aims to identify the nature, the scope and the effects of these public sector adjustments. The conference will be attended by government, trade union and employer representatives and experts of 30 European countries.

  2. First Anniversary of Convention 189 (Decent Work for Domestic Workers)

    Meeting on the First anniversary of the Convention 189 on Decent Work for Domestic Workers: this is a Joint meeting between IUF, IDWN (International Domestic Workers Network) and ITUC (International Trade Unions Confederation). The IDWN will be represented by leaders of domestic workers organizations in 7 countries in the regions: Africa, Asia, Latin America, Europe and the Caribbeans. They will inform the ratification processes in their respective countries.

  3. Maternity Protection Resource Package - Training of trainers

    The workshop which took place in Siavonga, near the beautiful shores of lake Kariba, involved more than 33 national officials and experts, who were equipped with knowledge, skills and tools to initiate awareness raising and capacity-building around the core theme of maternity protection at work.


  1. Tripartite Meeting of Experts on Working Time Arrangements

    17 - 21 October 2011

    This meeting was the first international policy discussion of working time issues in nearly 20 years. The purpose of the meeting was to review and advise on modern working-time arrangements, which includes identifying the main policy issues that would need to be addressed to develop future ILO guidance for advancing decent work in the area of working time.
