ILO Japan Head Meets with Norwegian Parliamentarians
Shinichi Takasaki, Director of ILO Office for Japan, met with a delegation from the Norwegian Parliament's Labour and Social Affairs Committee on March 1, 2023, to discuss social security and labour market trends in Japan. The ten members from the ruling and opposition parties, including Second Vice Chair Tuva Moflag, gathered at the Norwegian Embassy in Tokyo.
The Norwegian Parliament's Labour and Social Affairs Committee is a standing committee that examines matters such as the labour market, pensions, policies for the disabled and other social security issues.
Director Takasaki explained Japan's population trends, medical insurance and pension systems, as well as other issues. The lawmakers asked the Director a number of questions such as "How has the Japanese labour market been affected by the falling birthrate and aging population?" and "How do you see reducing long working hours in order to increase productivity?"
