The paper looks at issues of teacher education and professional development, offering examples of good practice from around the world, and it examines the quality frameworks being developed in different countries to bring about improvements in all aspects of university activity, not just teaching. The impact of information and communication technologies (ICT) in university teaching is discussed and the ‘connected educator’ is defined.
