The International Labour Organization (ILO) is the oldest and the only tripartite agency of the United Nations (UN) with a membership of 187 countries. The main aims of the ILO are to promote rights at work, encourage decent employment opportunities, enhance social protection and strengthen social dialogue on work-related issues. In 2019, the ILO celebrated its 100th anniversary. It called upon all member States to work individually and collectively, on a tripartite basis, to advance the human-centred approach for the future of work by strengthening the capacities of all people to benefit from the opportunities of a changing world of work, strengthening the institutions of work to ensure adequate protection of all workers against a background of new and emerging forms of work, and promoting productive employment and decent work. In the Pacific, the ILO serves its 11 member countries by working with Governments, National Employers Organizations and National Workers Organizations on fundamental issues relating to the world of work.
