Cross-sectoral activities are an integral part of the Sectoral Policies Programme, since certain cross-cutting themes benefit from being addressed through a sectoral approach that pilots work on this issue within the confines of a specific sector with a view to informing future work on this issue in other sectors.

This transfer of knowledge and exchange of lessons learned between specific sectors is particularly important in relation to topics that affect all sectors (albeit in very different ways), such as HIV and AIDS, as well as topics that are of particular importance for certain groups of sectors, such as green jobs or the urban economy.
