Sectoral meetings

Consensus building: international tripartite meetings

Several times per year, representatives of governments, employers’ and workers’ organizations from different countries and regions meet at the ILO Headquarters in Geneva, to participate in tripartite sectoral international meetings and global dialogue fora. Based on the most up-to-date research produced by the ILO, the tripartite representatives meet to debate emerging issues, main trends and challenges of their sector.
 
Consensus reached during such sectoral meetings results in recommendations for policy and action in the sectors. These recommendations, adopted at the end of the meetings, serve as a basis for the development of national policies and programmes, and provide guidance to constituents at international as well as country level.

  3. Sectoral Advisory Bodies 2021

    The Sectoral Advisory Bodies (SABs), composed of tripartite constituents engaged in economic sectors, were established at the 298th Session of the ILO Governing Body (March 2007) to review sectoral developments and to make recommendations to the ILO's constituents on priorities for sectoral work. Sessions of the SABs are held every two years, and they are chaired by a representative of the Government group of the Governing Body. Following the session held in January 2021 the SABs are to make recommendations on sectoral meetings to be held in the biennium 2022–23 and on preparatory work for sectoral meetings in future biennia. These recommendations will be submitted to the Governing Body at its 341st session in March 2021.

  1. World Teachers' Day

    The ILO, in collaboration with UNESCO, is pleased to invite you to the first World Teachers' Day event held at the ILO Headquarters in Geneva. Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the Joint ILO/UNESCO Committee of Experts on the Application of the Recommendations concerning Teaching Personnel (CEART), the event will bring together the Geneva-based community to explore the labour dimensions of the World Teachers' Day theme - how the right to education means the right to a qualified teacher.

  3. Global Dialogue Forum on Employment Terms and Conditions in Tertiary Education

    18 - 20 September 2018

    The purpose of the Forum was to examine employment terms and conditions, professional rights and social dialogue mechanisms, including collective bargaining and collegial governance in tertiary education, with the aim of adopting points of consensus, including recommendations for future action by the International Labour Organization and its Members.

    Meeting of Experts on Policy Guidelines on the Promotion of Decent Work for Early Childhood Education Personnel
