CIS: Fifty years of history

The International Occupational Safety and Health Information Centre (CIS), was founded 50 years ago, in 1959. This short history explores the reasons for its creation and traces its activities throughout the time.

This publication provides an overview of the beginning of the CIS, its network development, the advent of computer technology, the main databases, the work in the developing world, and its more recent online activities. It also reveals the CIS directors and coordinators over time as well as the first CIS National Centres, which played a key role in the later development of the CIS Network.
