ELEVENTH ITEM ON THE AGENDA

Matters relating to the ILO Administrative Tribunal

Possible amendment to article II, paragraph 5,
of the Statute of the ILO Administrative Tribunal
regarding the nature of international organizations
entitled to recognize the competence of the Tribunal

For reasons that are set out in document GB.271/LILS/1 it is proposed that the Statute of the Administrative Tribunal of the ILO should be amended so as to allow international organizations other than those strictly intergovernmental in character to recognize the jurisdiction of the Tribunal in accordance with article II, paragraph 5, of its Statute. After informal consultations with the Officers of the Programme, Financial and Administrative Committee, it has been decided to submit this matter to the Committee on Legal Issues and Labour Standards because of the inherently legal nature of the questions involved, while making it available1 to members of the Programme, Financial and Administrative Committee who might wish to comment on it.

Geneva, 16 February 1998.
