Appointment of Assistant Director-General

2. Article 1.4(b) of the Staff Regulations provides that Deputy Directors-General, Assistant Directors-General and the Treasurer and Financial Comptroller, on entering upon their duties, shall make and sign the prescribed declaration of loyalty before the Governing Body in public session.

3. After duly consulting the Officers of the Governing Body, the Director-General has appointed Mr. Göran Hultin as Assistant Director-General, with effect from 1 September 1997.

4. This decision is communicated to the Governing Body for information. A brief statement concerning the qualifications and previous activities of Mr. Hultin are given overleaf.

Mr. Göran Hultin (Finland)

Appointed Assistant Director-General, with effect from 1 September 1997, responsible for promoting and coordinating ILO enterprise activities, including interdepartmental activities, with a view to reinforcing their contribution to social dialogue and to job creation. The Enterprise and Cooperative Department (ENTREPRISE) will report to him.

Born in 1952, Mr. Hultin graduated from the University of Abo Akademi (Finland) in 1978 with an M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering. From 1979 to 1990, Mr. Hultin had extensive experience in private enterprise. From 1990 to 1994, he held the position of International Director of the Confederation of Finnish Industry and Employers in Helsinki (Finland). He has also been a member of the ILO Governing Body. He joined the ILO in September 1994 as Director of the Bureau for Employers' Activities.
