3225 DENTAL ASSISTANTS
 


    Dental assistants carry out advisory, diagnostic, preventive and curative dental tasks, more limited in scope and complexity than those carried out by Dentists, and they assist Dentists by preparing and taking care of instruments and other equipment, preparing materials and helping patients prepare for examination and treatment.

    Tasks include -

    (a) advising communities and individuals on dental hygiene, diet and other preventive dental measures;

    (b) conducting dental examinations to make diagnoses and refer more difficult cases to Dentists when needed;

    (c) cleaning teeth, preparing cavities and placing fillings;

    (d) performing certain types of prosthetic work and some surgical procedures;

    (e) preparing and taking care of dental instruments and equipment;

    (f) preparing dental materials;

    (g) helping patients prepare for examination or treatment;

    (h) performing related tasks;

    (i) supervising other workers.
