WEBINAR

ILO and ITC organize course on social protection statistics for PALOP countries and Timor-Leste

In the framework of the ACTION/Portugal project, the ILO and the ITC organized between 23 and 26 November a webinar on social protection statistics for the Portuguese-speaking African countries and Timor-Leste.

This course aimed at facilitating the sharing of experiences and knowledge between countries regarding the development of social protection statistics, including the establishment of national inter-institutional working groups and the production of national statistical bulletins on social protection. The over 90 participants from six countries also had the chance to learn about ILO’s new tools for the development of social protection statistical systems, as well as about social protection indicators related to coverage and adequacy.

During the event, Célio Langa, Senior Statistician of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security of Mozambique, presented the main results and experience of Mozambique in this domain. He highlighted the efforts of Mozambican institutions to generate comprehensive statistical data and indicators on the national social protection system and stressed the importance of the statistical bulletins for producing evidence and greater transparency.

In October 2021 Mozambique launched its Third Statistical Bulletin on Social Protection with ILO’s support through ACTION/Portugal project, which provides comprehensive statistical data and indicators on the national social protection system.
