Malawi’s Tripartite Labour Advisory Council deliberates on child labour

Lilongwe, 21 September 2020 – The Honourable Ken Kandodo, M.P. Malawi’s Minister of Labour, opened a meeting of the country’s Tripartite Labour Advisory Council (TLAC) on Thursday 17 September 2020 stating that: “The role of the Tripartite Labour Advisory Council is perhaps more important now than ever before, given its linkage to decent work and the 2030 Agenda. In the context of COVID-19, the Council can guide our recovery plans with inclusive, informed solutions for the benefit of our country”.

Safety and Health at Work Can Save Lives and Help Stop the Covid-19 Pandemic

As the world celebrate this year’s World Day for Safety and Health at Work, commemorated on 28 April each year, there is need to address the outbreak of the novel Coronavirus in the world’s workplaces. In Malawi, the International Labour Organization (ILO) is supporting the Government, workers, and employers to prepare for and respond to COVID-19 by reinforcing the social protection and labour protection clusters of the National Preparedness and Response Plan and sponsoring rapid assessments of the impacts of the crisis on the labour market, so that the ILO can support our partners and the broader United Nations (UN) country team to target our responses for maximum impact.

Japan supports ILO and Mozambique in socio-economic recovery after cyclone Idai

The Government of Japan has contributed US$ 545,454 to ILO’s response to cyclone devastation in Mozambique. This support will help restore damaged rural roads and create local jobs, providing better access and improving resilience in the Manica province.
