Discussions and preparations of Trade Union position papers on Labour Law Reforms, Industrial Relations and Industry Development

With the assistance of ILO ACTRAV the national trade union movement in India is strengthening its campaign to enable and prepare the trade union responses to Labour Law Reform, Industrial Relations and Industry Development. Furthermore it relates to the preparations of Trade Union position papers on Labour Law Reforms, Industrial Relations and Industry Development. In continuation to the regional conferences and consultative meetings held at Chennai, Bhubaneswar and New Delhi. It is now planned to organize a national trade union conference in collaboration with Centre for Informal Sector and Labour Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi on the 29th & 30th June 2015 at JNU campus in New Delhi.

As this would be the final consultation in preparation of the position papers, it is also planned to invite the Hon’ble Labour Minister and other officials from Ministry of Labour to the opening of the conference. The conference will discuss and finalize the trade union position papers on labour law reforms, industrial relations and industry development, which will serve as a reference toolkit for the trade unions’ future programmes.

Ms Maria Helena Andre, Director, ILO - ACTRAV, Geneva along with Mr. Raghwan, Asia pacific Desk Officer, ACTRAV – Geneva will participate in this national trade union conference. ILO officials from New Delhi office will participate and facilitate the conference.

National trade union leaders, staff of educational universities, researchers, economists and various social partners from the eastern and western regional states will attend the programme. Research papers and handbooks on the subjects are being prepared by consultants from the field of law and academia to further strengthen the efforts of the trade union responses on labour law reform, industrial relations and industry development.

The resource persons will include trade union leaders, Madras High Court Advocate Ms. Ramapriya Gopalakrishnan, Mr. Konark Rai from Ahmedabad, Dr Shyam Sundar and Dr Praveen Jha faculty members of the XLRI - Jamshedpur, Jawaharlal Nehru University - New Delhi respectively; the Vice Chancellor of National Law University, Odisha and Vice Chancellor of The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Chennai.
